Velvet dresses for the holidays...2011 Trend

Velvet dresses come and go out of fashion.  Personally, I love that they're back this Fall and Winter.  This is really the only season in which you can wear them.

Looking for ideas for your parties?  Check out these lovely dresses.  Now is the time to rock your velvet dress.  Channel your favorite time period, whether it's vintage, 80's (think Prince), or grunge a la Courtney Love.

3/4 Belted Sleeve Maternity Dress

If you can, I say rock it, momma!

"Take my hand; take my whole life too. For I can't help falling in love with you." Straight cut dress, circa 1980s by Ann Taylor.

Looking for the right pair of shoes to go with your velvet attire? Try these Badgley Mischka Women's Dylan on for size.

You're always breaking the rules and redefining the norm with your fearless fashion, but by parading this black dress out with velvet pumps, a fitted blazer, and a patent clutch, you single-handedly reinvent the chic staple from being the Little Black Dress to the Little Bandage Dress. Cut in a demure off-the-shoulders shape and encircled at the neckline, bodice, and bottom hem by glittering metallic bands, this notable knit number elicits oohs and ahhs whenever you model it, making it the new gold standard in evening-out attire.

Definitely a favorite of mine!..If it isn't broke, don't fix it - that theory is why you've always stuck to your tried and true, basic LBD. But the discovery of this stunning dress in midnight black made you second guess your trusted motto. Sure, it seems similar to your go-to party dress, but the superbly slinky fit of the black velvet body, the alluring coy scoop neck, and the delightful billow of the floaty, sheer sleeves made you realize that there was no going back to your old, boring staple. Now, pairing this beauty with patterned stockings, red platforms, and a vibrant bloom pinned in your hair, you show the world that a little variety can add some much-needed spice into your life.

Although it means you'll have to wait to open your own, you've been assigned the very special duty of distributing gifts! You anticipate conquering the important task when you buy this 80s-inspired, burgundy velour dress with cap-flapped long sleeves. Its form fitting shape and sloped open back make it festive enough to wear to hip and hoppin' parties but conservative enough to don while celebrating the seasons with family. Its smooth, velvety texture reminds you of matching dresses that you and your cousins used to wear back in the day and you giggle thinking about it. Try wearing with solid creme leggings, charcoal, Oxford-style heels, pretty pewter earrings, and an elegant updo for a versatile look that will wear well throughout this season of gift-laden gatherings!

Now who says a girl in waiting can't look sexy?

You’ll make a flawless first impression when you’re introduced in this elegant vintage dress! A vision in classic black velvet, this dress boasts a tulle-tufted skirt and a sophisticated sheer back adorned with a row of rhinestone-encrusted buttons, which are punctuated by a duo of dark bows. Get together your favorite pair of pumps, a silvery, sparkling clutch, a set of drop earrings, and this soft, swanky dress to captivate a new circle of friends. Who will make your acquaintance this evening? Who ‘bows’ until you arrive!

Velvet dress, circa 1970s - Now is this beauty a classic or what?  Great dress for an office or dinner party.

There are plenty of chic, vintage, and modern dresses that will have you looking lovely and luxe.  So while we're waiting for temperatures to drop, we can't help but fall for velvet all over again.

Would you wear it, let us know!
