East of Downtown LA

Courtesy of City-Data.com
I am currently living East of Downtown around big-chain eateries and a limited variety restaurants.  (Don't get me wrong, I can get great Mexican food here.)  What we do have are big banks, and mom-pop income tax offices, and hair salons on every block.  Take your pick.

I sometimes wonder what my neighborhood would look like if homes got a new paint job, fences were torn down, old junk was removed, lawns were kept up, and adults and children didn't loiter the streets after school.

These are the questions I ask of my fellow suburbanites and your immediate area:  What restaurants, shops, and other unique places do you recommend East of Los Angeles (or other USA town) and why?  Do you have a favorite house in your neighborhood?

Before you answer, make sure you consider: location, quality, uniqueness, how does this place of business enhance your community for the better or make it different? Is it kept up physically?  You can email your pics if you'd like to share!  Who knows maybe we can post and highlight your findings.
